How does my landlord or property manager get paid?

Updated over a month ago

When you add a property in Casa, we check whether your landlord or property manager is already connected to our system.

If your property manager is connected:

Payments can be routed directly to them, and you will not be asked to enter recipient details.

If your property manager is not yet connected

Casa still allows you to complete your payment. In this case:

  • Casa charges your payment method first

  • Funds settle into Casa’s account

  • Casa forwards the payment to your landlord or property manager

Casa supports multiple payment methods so you can pay housing expenses even when your landlord or property manager is not yet connected to our system. Some payment methods are available today, while others are coming soon.

After linking your property, you’ll be asked how your landlord or property manager would like to be paid. This article explains what each option means and what to expect.

Choosing a payment method

When you reach the payment method selection screen, you’ll see the available ways Casa can deliver your payment on your behalf.

The option you choose determines how Casa sends the funds to your landlord or property manager. Your payment schedule, due date, and tracking experience in Casa remain the same.

Interac e-Transfer (available now)

When you choose Interac e-Transfer, Casa sends the payment to your landlord or property manager using their email address. This method is widely supported and does not require your landlord or property manager to create a Casa account.

Interac e-Transfer is commonly used when:

  • Your landlord or property manager is not yet connected to Casa

  • You are paying an independent landlord or smaller property manager

  • A direct connection is not available for your property

If auto-deposit is enabled, the funds are deposited automatically. If not, a security code is required to accept the transfer.

You can learn more about how Interac e-Transfer payments work, including charge dates and security codes, in our dedicated Interac e-Transfer article.

Pre-Authorized Debit (coming soon)

Pre-Authorized Debit allows payments to be withdrawn directly from a bank account and deposited into your landlord or property manager’s account.

Once available, this method will be best suited for landlords or property managers who prefer direct bank transfers and recurring payments with minimal involvement after setup.

Pre-Authorized Debit is not yet available in Casa, but you’ll see it listed to indicate it’s coming soon.

Bill Pay (coming soon)

Bill Pay allows payments to be sent through your bank’s bill payment system, similar to paying utilities or credit cards through online banking.

Once available, this method will be ideal for landlords or property managers who already accept bill payments through their financial institution.

Bill Pay is not yet available in Casa and will be enabled in a future update.

Not sure which payment method to choose?

If you’re unsure which option to select, Casa can guide you during setup.

Today, Interac e-Transfer is the recommended choice for most landlords and property managers. As additional payment methods become available, Casa will make it easy to switch or choose the best option for your situation.

Key things to remember

  1. Interac e-Transfer is currently the only payment method available in Casa.

  2. Your landlord or property manager does not need to sign up for Casa to receive payments.

  3. Casa will always show you the available options during setup.
